March 4, 2009 - Using Stasilon® |fr to Treat Nosebleeds

How to use Stasilon® |fr 2" x 2" to stop a nosebleed

Stasilon®/fr (i.e, “Stasilon®”) is available in a 2”x2” format that is ideal for the treatment of nosebleeds.  Recently, it was used to great effect by a patient (Dr. Scott Olitsky) afflicted with Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia when he climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa.  Stasilon® quickly stopped the several nosebleeds he had even under such adverse conditions as dry air, cold and altitude.

An easy way to apply Stasilon® to the nasal cavity is shown below:

Lay Stasilon® flat.

Apply the back of a finger 1/2 to 2/3 of the way up the diagonal of the Stasilon® pad.  For small nostrils, use the little finger.  For larger nostrils, use the index finger.

Fold over the far corner of the Stasilon® pad and hold it down with the thumb.

Then, fold the remaining (near) corners of the pad and also grasp these with the thumb.

Using your finger, insert Stasilon® into your nose so that it contacts the bleeding surface.  When bleeding stops (this may require several minutes), remove the Stasilon® slowly and gently to take advantage of its anti-adhesive quality, keeping the clot intact.  If rebleeding occurs, simply repeat the sequence.

Stasilon® 2x2s (the ideal size for nosebleeds) can be purchased at: www.entegrion.com.
